(President Of Turkish Society Of Minimal Invasive Spine Surgery(OMID))
“Novelties and new surgical methods can only be developed and become widespread by sharing and learning from the experts,” as mentioned Peter Senge’s quote.
Our association is the most active association established in Turkey in the area of minimally invasive spinal surgery. The founders of our association have shared their expertise in many national and international meetings for over 15 years. For the first time in Turkey we have published the minimally invasive methods we have been using for the last 10 years in the treatment of osteoporosis in bone joints as led by our teacher Prof. Dr. Sahap Atik. Having observed endoscopic spinal surgery in the field’s leading clinics after it drew our attention in international IMLAS Laser Association meetings, the IMLAS 2005 conference held in Istanbul served as a milestone for us. We joined the Ismiss Association at that time and created the Ismiss Turkey brand. We started to hold our meetings under this brand within the scope of our association in 2009. However, since the Ismiss structure did not recognize national associations, our association and Ismiss went our separate ways with the sixth Ismiss Turkey Conference. Although Ismiss membership is encouraged within the association, we no longer have an organic connection.
In 2012, our association met with all associations worldwide in a common platform under the scope of the federation. I strongly recommend all national associations to come together in the new WFMISS Turkey platform. This is the only way to form an environment in which all surgeons involved in MISS can be productive.
It is exciting for us that Istanbul, the cradle of cultures, was chosen as the location of the first world conference with the title “capital of the world” right after the world federation was formed. I would like to express my pride at experiencing this honor on behalf of my association during my presidency and I would like to welcome all of my colleagues as well as worldwide association presidents working in MISS. This is not only a scientific event but also a celebration of the founding of our federation. Let us leave our mark on this historical moment together.
